Help, I am new to all this, and could really do with some advice . Im trying to trace my fathers family, I have a copy of his birth certificate, and have checked out the 1901 census but this isnt much help. I cant get any further than my nan on my mothers side either, most records I need to start with start in the 1920-30. Unfortunatly at 36 im now the oldest in my family and have no rellies to help. My father was a glanville born in the rhonda in 1919. He was the youngest in his family, and passed away 3 weeks ago. There are no papers or family records - where do I start? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Hi Karinne Hopefully you know the names of your father's brothers and sisters. Birth indexes back to about 1912 show mother's maiden name. You can look through these (others can suggest the best sites) to try and pick up as many siblings as possible. Your grandparents' marriage will (hopefully, but not necessarily) take place before the birth of the eldest child. You will have both grandparents' names, so you should be able to be certain you have found the right marriage. The certificate will take you a little closer to the all important date of 1901, and give you names for the next generation. Good luck! Brenda |

What are your father's parent's names from his birth certificate? Did you find them on the 1901 census? If you give full names and the area they were living when your father was born, they should be somewhere on the 1901. Kath. x |

Hi, my grandfather was Andrew Glanville, and grandmother was Elizabeth Glanville nee Thomas, not on the 1901 cenus have checked. My father was the youngest of about(?) 12. But I only have the names of Betty, Victor & Pat. No more info than that. My father had dementia so things were not always clear. Thank you for your replies, do you think a trip to somerset house would help? Regards, Karie |

There is one Elizabeth C. Thomas born Merionethshire, Wales on the 1901 census as a servant in Birkdale, Lancashire. She is 27 and single. The fact that she is away from home doesn't help with whether she is the right one or not. Kath. x |
