I sympathise withyou. Nobody is intersted in my Sanderson's from Farlam, Cumberland or my Graham's from Bewcastle, my Akroyd's from Halifax and surrounding area-or my Lant's from anywhere - the same story with 99% of my tree. As for hot matches - I have none at all!! Jacquie |

Keep your chin up, chuck. There must be someone out there connected to you, you just haven't found them yet. It will be all the better when eventually you do find them. |

Yes, Ive had fallow periods and then suddenly all hell seems to break loose and you have contacts and mails from all over the place. Actually I just went to have a look at curious fox, havent been on there for over a year and found a guy with a GGFx3 who looks like he is bro of my GGFx3 in Devon. Unfortunately the email addy he gives is now dead, but I live in hope he will check out the message board again one day like I have! |

I must admit I've been very lucky, contacts on here have filled in dozens of names (and I've been able to reciprocate) and tips/lookups have pointed me in the right direction for many more. Gwyneth in Kant (as above) set the ball rolling on mum's side, her look-ups saved me several trips. A few weeks ago an 1891 census look-up by Crista provided the key to getting a marriage certificate, which led to a birth certificate for a date I'd been searching for over a year. Some lines fall into place, others make you question whether the information on certificates is actually correct! But feeling pleased with myself at the moment because three mornings in Canterbury archives last week produced three or four critical records. But keep digging, the deeper the hole the more things you have which will eventually fall into place. |

Many thanks for your replies and thoughts they really are appreciated. If I am honest I don't think I would have come into this if it had of been easy. Usually the uncertainty is the thing that drives me on. So back to all my filing and rechecking previous info. Thanks |

Hi, Lil, I have the same problem, no-one is researching the Palmers from cumberland, the Wights from N Northumberland or the Leatham(lethams) either. One day perhaps! Anne |

I feel like that too. I have had people contact me but it has been from the name that I suspect my grandfather was born with. I like you, still live in hope, June xx |

It happens. I thought I must be the only one researching any branch of my tree then earlier this year it went mad. Messages were flowing, right, left and centre. I could hardly keep up with which person I was writing to, and about whom. We were all frantically messaging about our links, ( great grandparents or previous people) This was all within a 2 week span. It's eased now but we are still in touch. Now the doors have been opened we can mail one another when we want to, or when we find something new in our researching. It will come....... but When? |

Little Lil You will find someone else researching the same name eventually. At one time I knew of only one other person researching my mums maiden name Emberley, Emberly, although we werent in contact. That was years ago before I started this hobby. However Im now in contact with 3 other people although on their trees they only have the one name Although in the Cumberland area Id love to find someone else looking for my husbands Gardiner Gardener Gardner ancestors. I feel for you Little Lil, I think we all come to a point where we are stuck and cannot find out anymore information. When I get to this stage I go through all my old stuff and check it all out and usually come up with something I can search and perhaps come up with another lead by following records on a sibling of someone I am tracing. Good Luck Irene |

Having a down day. I sat here the other night and compared my names to all on the search pages, I must have sent out 40/50 emails asking if there was a connection. Nearly everyone has replied which is absolutely fantastic, and thank you all for that. But no one has a connection. I go on the Cumbria FHS site, no one is researching my names, I do the same on Roots web and the same happens. Are my family so unimportant that nobody wants to own them. |
