Hi! I received a 'stock' can I have access to your tree letter a week ago and, as I had had no previous contact with the asker, I replied asking which particular person or surname she thought we had in common. Her surname is not in my tree and is at present unknown to me and I have not had any further request since then! I vaguely wonder if it's possible to send one of these requests by accident? It seems such a strange (not to say rude) way of doing things if you haven't made previous contact with the person concerned, doesn't it? Anyway I see I'm in good company - seems to happen all the time!!! :-) Hazel

When I first started, I did put a lot of other people's research into my tree (I always asked permission & acknowledged the sources). Bit by bit, I am verifying it for myself and adding my own research results, but it has sometimes given me an alert to pick up things I should otherwise have missed. In the end it doesn't take much to realise that, although having a big tree is pleasing, it's much more enjoyable to get the info for yourself. Because I'm doing an ancestral chart, the extra 'sideways' info probably wouldn't have got so much attention from me (just enough to verify that I have the right ones in the direct lines), so it is useful & interesting from that point of view. I am grateful to those who gave me the info to get on so far so fast. Christine PS - I hope I always remembered to say Please & Thankyou!

People with three names on their tree often say, ''I have let you view my tree''!!!!!! Hooray!! Merry

I had a message asking about someone on my tree..... In the end, after I had explained more than several times that my rellie had died aged 4 so couldn't possibly be her g-granny etc etc, she said...........(and I quote!) ''Send me a gedcom of your whole tree, so I can be sure''!!! No please, thanks, or kiss my a**e!! I was sorely tempted to send her a gedcom with one person on it!!!! Merry

The other thing that made me suspicious is that this person has 4 people in their tree. It may be that they keep their info elsewhere off site or they're just starting out and I'm only too willing to help if that's the case IF there's a link I'm not keen on the idea of someone starting out latching onto the shared surname and adopting all my rellies without doing any research of their own! Hope that doesn't make me sound unreasonable and selfish with my research!

Hi Lou Just had a very similar one who got quite stroppy when asked what the connection was. Anyhow he's just told me and I'm not letting him have access anyway - the links far too tenuous. Trudy

The person concerned was very politely told to provide some evidence that our trees might be connected. Silence ever since!

Seen several threads recently over lacks of manners and such like and just had to share this message that I received this week. Logged on one day to find a message saying 'Please give me all the information you have on the ******** family'. That was it! No indication of how this person might be connected to my family cos it's a fairly common surname. It made me smile anyway!
