Could this be it? Article in The Times dated 20th May 1954. William Gibbons (aged 54) shot dead by Nathan Goldberg at Bishop's Way, Bethnal Green. Two others were also shot. One was injured and the other one was in hospital at the time of the newspaper article. The gunman seems to have shot himself. If you need a copy, send me your email addy by PM!! Merry |

Hi Nell thanks i will do that, mum has rang my aunt and she pretty sure it was gibbons, they remember when it happened, it was one of my grandfathers brothers eithe william(bill) or james(jimmy) lol kim |

You could google to find the nearest library to Bethnal Green and then e-mail them and ask if they have a newspaper collection. But it probably isn't indexed and you don't have a definite surname either. I would try to find out who this chap was first - if he was an uncle of your mother's he must have been either a brother of one of her parents, or married to a sister of one of her parents. nell |

Hi just been talking to my mum on the phone and she just mentioned that one of her uncles was shot dead at victoria park in about 1950 but she cant remember his name, all she remembers is that his surname would of been gibbons oh or toombs lol, does anyone know of any web sites i could look and see if i can find any details many thanks kim |
