Guess what, Heather - the Chapman code for Surrey is SRY, and the Chapman code for Syria is SYR. So that must be what has happened here - a bit of dyslexic typing on the part of the transcriber! My favourite mistranscription for today - I was looking for Harry Crocker in 1871 ... finally found him as ''Marry Macker''! Richard

Now, Richard, this is me, veteran of the 'rude names on ancestry' thread - that isnt really your favourite. You mean I dont have a rellie who was an Victorian explorer then?

Heather

Heather Report 29 Sep 2005 15:19

And I think we ought to have a prize for the one who spots 1851 on ancestry first!

I did say my favourite for TODAY, Heather! Of course, if you want some rude ones then I'm sure I could find 'em! But then your thread would probably get deleted so maybe I'd better not...

Probably will be anyway Louisana! If I had the time and energy (slap me someone I must get on with some proper work), I would enter the Syrian Republic in the search box on ancestry and see how many other poor sods are wearing yashmaks because of ancestry.

Well the person in the know on the records board was told by insider info it would be on line by the end of this week. I wonder if it will? Will you be sitting there at midnight Merry?
