Thanks Sarah. I had looked on that site, but I wasn't able to find that listing - it's amazing how you find that stuff.

Many thanks Julie and Christine. I will definitely write away to the museums - need the timeline to narrow down whether they are the same man. Hopefully they will be able to confirm either way, and not leave me with more questions. Margaret

I agree with Julie, use google to find the regimental museum and email them. In my experience the regimental museums hold copies of the regimental history and that will detail where the regiment was at any one time. For one of my ancestors the curator very kindly sent me photocopies of relevant pages. Using information from regimental histories I was able to confirm details for one man and to exclude another as a possible relative. Good luck Christine in NZ

Have you googled 6th Regiment of Foot - I've just done it and it looks like they became part of the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers. If so you could write to their museum at St John's House, Warwick CV34 4NF They can be very helpful - I got more information from my husband's ancestors regimental association/museum than I did at Kew.

Thank you ladies. I will check out those sites. Bernice, I don't think my 3xggrandfather was over here very long. My cousin has already done some research and by 1810 he was in Ireland, where my 2xggfather was born. I'm wondering though, if the Regiments were only sent to Quebec or across the other provinces as well. It's not like searching in England with a national index -- you have to search each province individually -- very pricy if you haven't got a clue. Based on evidence we have gathered John returned to Warwickshire after his discharge in 1816 and had another 2 sons (that we have found). I had mail from a lady who has a relative also named John. Her records show his son was born in Canada about the time the 6th Regiment was over here; and then another son born in Gibraltar around the time the Regiment was there, before having a son with the same name, same place and about the same time as my 2xggfather's brother. She has her Joseph on 1841 and we have my Joseph on 1851 - as yet we haven't found hers in 1851 and mine in 1841. Although we have the general movements of the Regiment - years only - we are trying to pinpoint the actual dates they moved from country to country to see if they match the dates of birth for these children. Oh and hopefully try and trace the birth certificates to find out the mother's names. Margaret

Does anyone know where I could go about finding where the Regiment travelled and when (I know there is a word for this, but all I can think of is 'timeline'). I am trying to see if two men are maybe one and the same - I have discharge records for one; the son of the other one was born in Canada around the time the Regiment may have been here. I am looking around the early 1800s. I want to see where they were stationed when the son was born -- narrow it down so I don't have to request records from every province.
