Had a look through the 20+16 pages of Ashton Keynes in 1871 and couldn't spot them. Lots of TELLINGS, a number of BOULTONs, TAYLORs, CUSSes, BRAINs, STRATFORDs, COVEs and so on, but no CHAPMANs that I could see. I don't claim to be infallible, though. Christine

As a sideline from http://www.wiltshirebmd.org.uk, reinforcing what you know already: Wiltshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1867 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference CHAPMAN Benjamin WEAVER Mary J Ashton Keynes Chippenham C68/1/187 It confirms they were married in Ashton Keynes (presumably at Holy Cross, the parish church). If you can get sight of (images of) the parish registers, you could get a copy of their marrriage entry for the cost of a copy (usually less than 50p), which would show their own signatures (or Xs) instead of someone else's copy. Geography isn't my strongest point, but it looks as if Ashton Keynes is right on the border with Gloucester. 1871 has a Mary J, bENJAMIN AND lUCY all in Gloucestershire. Someone with a sub ought to be able to tell whether they are in the same household, as I'm failing to second guess which village they might be in!

Hi Kim If the birth area's are to be believed in 1881. These are the entries for children: Births Sep 1870 Chapman Lucy Sophia Cricklade 5a 36 Births Mar 1874 Chapman John Henry Cricklade 5a 42 Births Sep 1876 Chapman Robert Cricklade 5a 39 Cricklade covered Ashton in Wilts. So you know they were in the area when Lucy was born? Dont know if thats of any help..lol. Suzanne

I CAN find the following family on ancestry 1881 census. I know they married in 1867 from the bmd index, but having trouble locating them on any other census altogether.
