Recently I was looking for one rellie and found another one living next door who Id been searching for ages for with no luck on ancestry. The rellie I found was badly mistranscribed but the other one was perfectly clearly my guy. I mailed ancestry and got this reply: I am sorry that you have had problems searching for your Great Uncle. I am glad you were able to locate him while searching for your Great Aunt. One of the reasons that could be happening is if we don't have the 1891 census completely indexed. If you need any help with your searches, please don't hesitate to call us at 0800-404-9722. Let us know if we can do anything else for you

Some of Ancestry is very badly transcribed. When I have checked the original documents it looks nothing like what they have entered. I checked the original documents when I was puzzled why my great uncle should declare himself french when he was born in Paddington and I found that the French bit belonged to the chappie on the previous entry.

Yes awful mistranscriptions, but at least you have some chance of finding them but if ancestry is saying that some of the names arent even on their index yet .............

I knew there was something amiss with 1891!!! I have more 'missing' rellies on that census than all the rest put together! Now I know why! Bev x

Heather that is good to know. I have been searching for ages for family members on the 1891 and can not find them, now I know why, probably not transcribed, and I have been searching deaths and new marriages, of course with no luck... thanks for telling us. Elizabeth

I'm sure that before Ancestry updated to the new font the other day, some of the census records were showing as ''Complete Index'' when you looked under ''UK Census Collections''. Now it doesn't state that any more. I know that one of my families used to be on the index but the page wasn't available to view. Now the family are not on the index either, so there's something funny going on! btw, does anyone know how to access the ''Full List of Databases'' on Ancestry?? There used to be an option for that as well as ''Recently Added Databases''. The ''Recently Added'' link is still there, but I can't find the other link...........................:o(( Merry (Not)

Alter Ego, yea your dead right, some of the streets are missing completely from the LPOOL census. My wifes g/grandfather went off to work from LPOOL down to SOUTH WALES, auctioneer by profession and went where the work was. In the 1891 census he left his wife at home with 4 of the children and the other 3 he took with him, or so I thought. I found one of the children his dau living with one of her uncles in BIRKENHEAD but ive never found the other 2 boys to this day. They lived in the Tunnel Rd, Smithdown Road area and quite a few of the roads around there are missing from the 1891 census, so maybe I'm never going to find where these 2 boys were in 1891, all was well however because they were back home with mum on the 1901 census and unfortunately dad THOMAS had died one year earlier. Its not LPOOL RO fault however thast there are missing bits. TED.
