Having seen this mentioned the other day, I have just joined. I have put it into our search bit and have learnt quite a bit about it BUT: They recommened you put a password to stop visitors but how do you then share your info. I have put in a password but if I give this to anyone does that mean they can change my tree? Any helpful hints would be great. Many thanks, Jeanie |

No they can't change any details, only you can do that as 'master editor' I didn't password mine and found I had several hundred views, but no messages from anyone There's nothing to stop people using your info without your knowledge if you don't password it I have a password, but un-decided if it's the right thing to do..... Hi Elley, I have my tree on rootsweb so I don't mind sharing it. Was a bit concerned re people changing it which seemed to be implied!!Have all my living as dates so I'll probably remove second password if it means people can't see it. Very confusing for my tiny brain cell!!! |

There's password to edit and an optional one to view. It's a point of argument on TB as to password or not. Personally I cant see the point. I too have been on there a long time but no contacts. Bob |

I left a message on TP baords and got a contact and it was possitive, they were from the same line as me back in 1800's been helping each other ever since. I like the layout on there,I find it's easier to get around and I like the fact that you can add a lot of info. Angie PS I use password |

Hi, I use tribalpages. I didn't use a password until someone took my information and tried to SELL my own information to me through a different email address I had at the time. What a cheek some people have! Anne |

Even if you have a password on your TribalPages tree, people will still get a ''hit'' if they search on there for your names. Of course, they won't be able to see the details but they will get a link to your email address. That way, they can message you and if you feel that they're genuine, then you can email them the password so that they can get in. Of course, you only send them the ''visitor'' password, not your administrator password, otherwise they'll be able to edit your data! I have my tree on tribal Pages and think it's great - good presentation and easy to navigate, etc. Richard |

I have 4 trees on Tribal Pages (a maternal & paternal for both myself and hubby), and I use the same password for each one. BUT, I use a different password to get into the editing part. I think you can do that by going into the settings bit! That way I don't need to worry about those I've given the page password to from getting into the edit section. |

Hi Jeanie, I have had my FT on Tribal Pages for near on two years. The first few months I didn't password word it, but then I got a message from a relative to say that a 3rd party had found my sight and had taken all the info and added to there own. I then passworded it. Others are able to do a Name Search on the site. If YOU have a name that matches ... they get to your Home Page and they are then asked to E.Mail you. They SHOULD tell you what the connection is, and a few of the details they have ... THEN YOU can decide if you want to give them MORE details or tell trhem there is NO match. You don't have to give anyone access to your site. All my relations have my first password, so they can look on the site at anytime without permission from me. There is a SECOND password that ONLY you should know, thatallows YOU to update/change details etc. NEVER give this password out to anyone. Good Luck If you need to see how the above works .... do a search for '' Anne Shawcross b 1577 ' on Tribal Pages I am guessing that MY site will be the only match but if not look for Shawcross of Flixton and see what happens. Hope this helps. Elaine :-) |

Having become a fan of tribalpages I soon ran out of my 50 photo's and have up graded to the standard site. Does anyone know, if I do not pay next year, will they take off the extra photo's? Thanks Ps The one irritation is adding people with the same name. I have just added a load to my PAF along with lots of notes and have uploaded again. Just hope it works and that the photo's are in the same place!! |
