trying to find anything about the above named pub in fatfield county durham 1900`s. my family had this place but can`t find any info on it can anyone help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sharon, I went to Old maps(.)co(.) uk - remove the brackets. It has one of Fatfield in 1862 but with only three pubs - the Peareth Arms, the Punchbowl and what looks like either the Speckled or the Spotted Cow(theres a road across it !). The grid reference is 430840,553741 Fatfield, Durham if you want to have a look. Couldnt find anything in A2A, but possibly the local museum or Records office may be able to help.( presumably the name was changed later or the pub built after this date). The only mention of Fatfield on Memory map is a Fatfield House Farm. Do you know where Fatfield is. I was born County Durham and I can't say I've heard of it. Kath. x

Sharon, Your family are on 1901 census RG13 4702 folio 16 p24. civ par Harraton,Ecc par Fatfield st George, Reg dist Chester le street. Next door to the fried fish shop is The Dun Cow Inn , proprieter John and Betty Veal. This should be enough to contact local records office/history society etc for more info. Good luck! Elaine x.

thanxs everyone, betty veal who lived there in 1901 was elizabeth archer who was married to jonn archer who was my g-g-g-grandfather. i live just up the road from fatfield in penshaw but iwould love to know where in fatfield the pub actually was then. when i go through fatfield on the bus i have a funny feeling inside just wondering where they lived and what it looked like then
