Matthew, as Merry implied in the beginning, you would be best to get the marriage certificate for when she married James Fairbotham and that will give you her father's name and occupation. Kate. |

One thing that can often be useful and worked for me on this one (should have mentioned it before lol) is where the name seems to have been clearly written on the census, but the spelling is different, try looking for a birth reg in the ''wrong'' name. In this case, Hilda Tennant. NONE in the right place at the right time!!! Obviously not 100% conclusive, but now you have found what looks like the marriage entry too. Another thing that sometimes works is to check out the earlier census for the spelling on that.......In this case you could look for her dad and see how his name is recorded in earlier years...... This sort of thing becomes more dodgy the further back you go, but in general terms, most people had more or less decided how to spell their names by 1891/1901...... (There will now follow a million messages saying the poster's uncle Fred's name was spelled 6 different ways in the 20th Century.... lol) Merry |

In the time it took to look, Merry had done the ancestry - sorry about the repetition- Dear Matthew I usually find the reason someone's 'missing' is that the name has been mistranscribed. I tried Hilda Te* on the 1901 census search and found this: Hilda Tennant age:8 born: Durham Stockton County:Durham Civil Parish: Stockton On Tees could this be her? found this on ancestry too for 1901 Charles Tennant abt 1894 Stockton, Durham, England Son Stockton on Tees Durham Clara Tennant abt 1862 Sunderland, Durham, England Wife Stockton on Tees Durham George Tennant abt 1862 Darlington, Durham, England Head Stockton on Tees Durham George Tennant abt 1893 Stockton, Durham, England Son Stockton on Tees Durham Herbert Tennant abt 1899 Stockton, Durham, England Son Stockton on Tees Durham Hilda Tennant abt 1893 Stockton, Durham, England Daughter Stockton on Tees Durham Walter Tennant abt 1894 Stockton, Durham, England Son Stockton on Tees Durham of course it may be there's a Hilda Tennet and a Hilda Tennant age 8 in Stockton in 1901, but these might be worth a look. Easy one (not for me) Hilda Tennet born in Stockton 1892, went on to marry James Fairbotham and have 10 kids. Nowhere to be found on the 1901 census. Any idea's ? Matthew |
