My Gt Grn Father was born in Birmingham Jun 1884 - Samuel Percy Sanders. When I look for him in the 1901 census, I get nothing searching in Warwickshire. Although I know he lived in Birmingham all his life. Any tips where else I could look ?

Have you searched any further afield than Warwickshire, Matthew. The census is just a snapshot of who was in that house on that night, not who lived there permanently. He might have been elsewhere, visiting relatives or friends for the night. Tina

perhaps he was away from home at the time,try doing a blanket search on his name. Have you found any of his family? Also I think if you put in christian name only & approx age , & the district ,you may get lucky & the family may have been mistranscribed. Shirley

Hi Tina, I get nothing anywhere for a search on Samuel Percy or Samuel P. All I get for Samuel Percy are his birth and marriage (Louisa Neal 1910). I search for Samuel Sanders (all counties) gives me 140 results but none would appear to be him.

Do you know his parent's names, which would make it easier to trace him. Was he known as Samuel or Percy? Try using just one of the names and no particular county, or try using just the surname to see what results you get. Kath. x
