Years ago, I made my one and only trip to the Family Records Centre in London, to search the fat ledgers for BMD's for my immediate family. I was able to dispel a rumour that my grandmother had been married previous to her marriage to my grandfather............Only trouble was.....I MISSED the entry!!!! Today I have discovered she DID marry previously and that the man she wed was already married! Great excitement, but I could have discovered this YEARS ago. SOOOO, check the things you did right at the very start of your research!! It's worth it!....Happy Hunting - Merry

Merry I have done the same sort of thing myself. Dont throw anything out, look back over some thing's you did ages ago, and you are sure to find something. I have stuff from a couple of years ago, that I thought were wrong, now it is coming together. The only problem is my tree is growing 'big branches' lol Marion

Kate - you may remember finding a WW1 medal record for me on the National Archives site??? Thank you again. I have now found that gran married this man in 1915, but that he was already married and had three children too. I have been able to contact his descendant through this site and she says there is lots to tell about him and what happened after this bogus marriage took place!! So it looks as if I may be able to clear up this 90-year mystery and it's thanks to you!!!!! Sorry not to mention any names, but maybe that wouldn't be fair on his descendant I am now contacting?????? Bottle of cyber champagne on it's way to you! Merry

It's amazing how you can go back to your earliest records and see something that you've missed in the many times you've looked at it. Also, you can make new discoveries in the light of research you've done more recently. Bit like a jigsaw, when you've got a bit of the sky done, you can recognise a bit of cloud! nell

Morning everyone. Four years ago I started my family tree after inheriting a box of photos and certificates. My main interest was to find the twin sisters of my father born in Sept 1943. I had their birth certs and a Baptism roll, enrollment date 14th November 1943. I searched the death register at the local cemetery from November on wards and 1837 site until I was exhausted and at a loss. The other day I sat and looked at the Baptism roll and had devine intervention; noticed the writing was different for the enrollment date entry. Checked 1837 September qtr and discovered the twins died 2 and 3 days after birth ! Very sad but now I know what a traumatic few years my grandma and family must have had. As, has been said before - Recheck notes. Joan

This is SO true. Having come to dead ends last week, I started to collect together a whole box load of snippets that I collected when I first started all this what 2 years ago (is that all, I feel like Ive lived centuries now). I came across - almost immediately - a marriage which I had no connection for then but now ties in beautifully as my GGPx4 eldest daughter. Woo hoo. Bet there are even more gems in that box when I get round to them.

I found a bit of paper written by me about 14 years ago, on which I had made a note of someone from the 1881 census. I had indicated that the person could not be my rellie, because the age was a year wrong!!! lol At the time, there was no general access to the census and this was the very first person I had looked up - In my ignorance I thought people actually gave their correct details lol Merry !!!

Hi 'Merry'; I have just got round to looking through the boards as it has been a busy day. Glad to hear your news. I do look back through my old notes from time to time to see if there is anything I missed, and it is certainly worth doing. Anyway, your grandmother's story is so similar to my great-grandmother's in some ways (also happened in WWI), and I can quite understand why you don't want to put up all the names and details. It's a great relief when one of those mysteries gets cleared up, though, isn't it? Kate.
