Oh thanks Peter, poor chap has already got the lot now - it will take ages for him to wade through! I did get nearly to that point, I thought I had got it when I copied individual, but then nothing happened. I guess at that point I should have tried to export to a ged com? I will have a go at it as you have advised just for practice. Thank you.

To export just part of your tree as gedcom file proceed as follows. First create a Report containing the bit of the tree you want to export. You can do this using any suitable report, Ancestor, Descendants, etc With the report displayed on screen, Click on File then select Export File from the drop down Select Copy/export individuals in report When the save as box opens, click on save as type, and select gedcom, saving the file to whatever folder you find convenient. Many thanks Jen, but that would be the whole lot, wouldnt it. I just want one line for the chap, so he can put it straight into his gedcom program.

Ooh sorry, just spotted that you only want to send one line. I guess the export option will work in a similar way though...

Hiya, just had a look for ya. Click File, export, export whole file, then at the bottom of the window where it says 'file type fam tree maker', go to the arrow next to it and you can scrol down and select gedcom. Make sense?? xxJen

I can't manage gedcoms either, I rely on the kids to do them for me!!! (shame) I'd admit defeat and ask him to tell you how to do it, after all he wants the info!! Suex

Sorry, I can't help you as I am no whizz on the computer either, altough I use FTM2005. If your new cousin is asking particularly for a gedcom, he probably knows about these things, so why not ask him to send detailed instructions. Hope someone else can help you. Kath. x

Hi, Im not a whizz at the puter and I have just been contacted by a new distant cousin on my Horstead line (woo hoo) who found my homepage site that familytreemaker sets up for you. Now this very nice new cousin wants me to send a gedcom of just that family line. How do I do that please? He wants a gedcom, I was hoping I could get away with a general report but no ..............
