Hi, Could anyone look-up an original transcript for me please? Please could you look-up Elizabeth Stepney born Lewes in 1842. Living at 10 St Martin's Place, Brighton, Sussex on the 1881 census. I believe her to be my relative but her age is ten years out. I actually have her as being born in 1851. The 1881 census says she is 39 but I wonder whether that has been read incorrectly and really it says 29 which would fit in with my relative. Thanks to anyone who can help, best wishes, Carol

It definitely says 39, and there is a son aged 22, so I don't think she could be 29. Would you like the image. Senf me your email address if you would. Have the same family in the 1861 and 1871 census. Have saved these images too. Kath. x

Thanks Kath, The children would be step-children as they only married in 1873. All the other info is correct except her age. Don't worry about sending the original, thanks. Would you have access to the 1891 as it might say a different age? Now I am being cheeky! But I'm so sure I have the right person. Thanks ever so much for your help though, best wishes, Carol

If Kathleen has EXACTLY the same family in 1861 and 1871 (ie with the same wife) then maybe you have the wrong people?? Maybe you should check this out with her? Sarah (sorry to but in lol)

You must have her age wrong as the 1901 has her as 59, 1891 has her as 49, 1881 has her as 39, the 1871 as 29 and the 1861 as 19. More consistent than any of my lot!! If you want any of these just let me know. Kath. x

Kath, Thanks ever so much. Sorry missed the end of your first reply regarding 1871 and 1861. Put it down to being tired and endless searching tonight. Really appreciate it though, thanks, carol

You say they only married in 1873, but they are calling themselves married in 1861 and 1871. Kath. x

Hiya, My Elizabeth definately married in 1873 in Lewes. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Beeching born 1851 Lewes. There were two possibilities on Freebmd one of them being a William Stepney. the other being Mr Townsend. So my next step was to try and find her on the 1881, which I thought I had. The children I presumed were step-children. As Elizabeth's age is consistant throughout the census I must have the wrong person. Don't worry kath, I'll keep searching, thanks though, Carol x

Crista, Thanks very much for that info. That's really given me something to think about! My Great Great Grandmother , (Elizabeth Beeching's sister) lived at 71 Washington Street, Brighton for a short time. You're a star, all the best, Carol
