A couple of comments before I go backto work! 'Swaffam' is almost certainly 'Swaffham' (in case you didn't already know.) Judging by the statistical distribution of phonetically similar surnames on the Norfolk Transcription website (you need to think in a Norfolk accent now!): STEBBANS - 1 STEBBEN - 1 STEBBENS - 5 STEBBIN - 1 STEBBING - 30 STEBBINGS - 91 STEBBINS - 12 STEBING - 2 STIBBEN - 2 STIBBENS - 6 STEBINGS - 10 STEBON - 1 STIBBING - 6 STIBBINGS - 13 STIBBINS - 11 STIBBON - 13 STIBBOND - 1 STIBBONS - 56 STIBBORN - 7 STIBBOURN - 1 STIBBURNE - 1 STOBBING - 1 I can't help but think that the O in Stobbings is a mis-reading of an E. Natalie, Just had a thought after rereading your initial info. If your g grandfather was born in Penge, the census place is probably Anerley, which is right next to Penge. Janice |

I can't read the place on the 1891 either, but on the 1901 it says Redhill as the birthplace for the children. Janice |

I am tracing my g-g-grandparents. I have obtined the birth cert of my g-grandfther and it shows his father as George Martin and wife as Sarah Annie Stebbings/Stobbings. I cannot read what the srname says. On Free BMD I have found the marriage Dec 1887 bt i cannot find any more info on her. Does anyone else have any ideas? thankyou for your time |
