A further observation, Have the volume numbers changed? This entry has been recorded as 1b, Westmoreland was 10b. Could be worth confirming this before ordering any certificates. Derek.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I didn't think that Je meant June! Gillian

Yep, Je is June. They use a two digit code, Ja is January and Jy is July. Hope that helps a bit. Does anyone know which year they began puting the date of birth in the indexes of death registrations? I had always thought it was in 1983, but obviously it was 1970 or before! Sarah

Gillian - I am not an expert on 1970 registrations, but my guess would be that it means 18th June 1970. Is there a birth entry for him for the June or September quarter to confirm this? Kate.

No the ref is vol 1b page 1464. Have a look at the entry & you'll see what I mean. Gillian

Hi that isnt the date but the reference you need to buy the birth certificate from the GRO. It can be done online and is £7. Sorry I also read that as a birth, not a death.

Hello All, A search found a death in 1970 (Lancelot Langhorn, Westmorland). His date of birth is given but I don't undrestand it: 18Je 1970. What is the 18 Je bit?? Thanks, Gillian
