Gordon Report 15 Jun 2005 12:45

I have 1901 details for my g-father Frederick McDonald as follows, living in Percy Main, Nthld (civil parish Chirton):- Thomas McDonald head m. 48 born Durham Whitworth Jane wife m 46 born Nthld, Willington Quay John son s 19 born Nthld,Rosehill, Willington Anthony son s 15 born Nthld, Percy Main Frederick son s 11 born Nthld, Percy Main Gilbert S. son s 10 born Nthld, Blyth I've tried everything on Ancestry, but cannot find them in 1891. Could they have been missed or could it be that they haven't been transcribed yet? Any help greatly appreciated!! Gordon

Hi Gordon I had a similar problem with one of my relatives. After posting on this site I was advised of the possibility of a transcription error and therefore did a search with every other bit of information I had apart from the surname - turns out my James Tucker was transcribed as Lucker! I suppose with yours there's even more possibility of it being mistranscribed. Good luck. Clare

maybe you need to page by page through Percy main and Blyth- More than a fair chance they will be in one or the other. jess

Thanks Jess I've tried all usual misspellings etc, so may have to trawl. Just as an aside, is it possible to copy details from Ancestry and paste on here? It's a pain typing everything out. Gordon PS Just realised that my original message did not appear as I typed it, i.e. one person on one line!!

Probably obvious, but have you tried putting Macdonald instead of Mcdonald. As well as mistranscription, there could also be a mis spelling by the enumerator.

You can use control C to copy having highlighted, control V to paste. to get round the GR not paragraphing, put the bulk of your request in as first reply. jess

Hi Carol Yes, I've tried McDonald, Mc Donald, MacDonald, MackDonald etc, all first names only, all places with spelling variations but no luck. I think they were hiding behind the settee when the enumerator called! Gordon
