Looking for Apprentice shoemakers

Have you tried looking at the A2A (Access to Archives) catalogue? Or you could see if the Norfolk Archives have an on line catalogue. I obtained a Bedfordshire apprentice cordwainer indenture dated mid 1700s by searching their catalgue and writing to them. In this case my ancestor was the person taking on the apprentice. Anne

I know Lyla said they held the records for cordwainers (shoemakers) in the LMA but not sure if that is a country wide thing. If I were you Id send an email to the Norfolk Records Office in Norwich - you can google for their website. (I had freemen cordwainers in Norwich).

Yes it would be well worth trying the museum. I am sure I have read only recently, but of course can't remember where, that they do hold these records. Sheila

Not much of a tip but there is a museum for the shoe industry in Northampton and if anyone knows of a list they should. Their number is 01604 838111. Have a look at northampton(.)gov(.)uk/museums Simon

Hi. Does anyone know if there is any register for Apprentice shoemakers in Norfolk and Suffolk around 1700+? I have tried google but it does not throw anything usfull up.
