i am trying to find a place in westmoreland - near appleby called BONGATE cant find it on my map does anyone know if it still exists and if its the name of a place, an estate or a farm or something many thanks janice

There are roads called Boroughgate and Doomgate in Appleby, check on www streetmap uk co nell

Bongate is the B6542 leading east out of Appleby. nell

Appleby, a municipal borough, market-town, and the chief town of Westmoreland, stands on the river Eden, and on the Eden Valley railway, 9 1/2 miles ENE of Shap, and 13 SE of Penrith. It is 268 miles from London by road, and 276 by the M.R. The town consists of Appleby proper, in the parish of Appleby St Lawrence, on the left bank of the river, and Old Appleby or Bongate, in the parish of Appleby St Michael, on the right bank.

Janice Then go to www streetmap uk co and put Bongate in the searchbox - it will show you, and your own map must have the B6542 coming out of Appleby. nell
