My sister came round with a box of old family photos, and we came across an armed forces Change of Address card which belonged to our father. There were also lots of photos of him in exotic locations, many of which had dates, names and locations on the back. He joined up round about 1946, and I'd love to be able to find out a little more about his career. Does anyone know of a site where I might be able to find some info please? Many thanks, Pam |

You might find something in the London Gazette: http://www.gazettes-online.*co.uk (remove *) I found the notice of my father's commission - and my grandfather's and his elder brother's. You have to be prepared to search the name with the components both ways round - or initials. - i.e. Fred Bloggs Bloggs, Fred F Bloggs Bloggs, F Noting that initials don't always seem to 'take' in searches. This could be a problem if the surname is Smith! This might be a useful starting point for you: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/militaryhistory/ There are also specific museums for the different forces - and individual regiments. Christine |
