Am I being thick? (Don't answer that) How can Bishops Transcripts have MORE information than the original PR? BTs are copies made at the end of each year (hopefully) of the Parish Records. Marjorie

Hi Christine, yes thanks, had sucked the Norfolk transcripts dry some time back - btw every Horstead on there is related to me, (be it Horsted or Horstade or even Hosted!). I know I will find this couple one day but with dead ends all round me at the moment I really would like to get them sorted as it would be a big boost for me at this time. They will turn up. I shall go and stand at their graves 3 miles down the road this evening and urge them to tell me!

I take it you must have squeezed what there is out of the Norfolk Transcription site, http://www.genealogy.doun.org by now? I did have a look, but there don't seem to be any likely candidates for the records you're after - even amongst the names which look like variants (or mistranscriptions). I guess all you can do is to focus on something else, but keep it simmering, and hope that some other source turns up over time. Christine

hi heather Bishops transcripts are a good idea and are in Norwich library too. I have an ancestor like this who is also driving me crazy. I can't find the baptism of my 4x gGrandad . The family come from Essex. Then suddenly I found one in Westminster with one of my 3x times uncles lodging as a cousin. I think - he must be 4x ggrandad's brother - but can't find the link! Drives you craaaazy doesn't it? Hope you find yours - Have tried to post my prob on here before but too complicated to expect anyone to answer - would really like to know how to go about it! Sorry to waffle on your thread - hope it doesn't get deleted now! Alice

Hi TC Just a thought - several people have looked at the Bishops Transcripts for the area and found info which had been missing from the Parish records - its worth a try - good luck

At the risk of any of you commiting suicide over this couple - and wondering if anyone is actually left who can help - you may remember I have been searching for the marriage of Elizabeth Selby and Edward Horstead getting on for two years now. As mentioned (ad nauseum) previously Horstead is a name confined just to Norfolk or Nothamptonshire at that time, whereas Selby was very rare in Norfolk. Now in Norfolk in the 18th century, the Horsteads were in two clutches, one south of Norwich (Ketteringham/Hingham/Attleborough/Dereham area) and the other in the Aylsham area (just north of the village of Horstead which no doubt ...........) Edward and Liz must have married about 1764 ish but cant find them anywhere and hence cant reliably go any further back (though there are some options for that). Their first son was a Thomas, followed by John. Just fiddling with the Pallots lists and the 1861 on ancestry and I found a Thomas Selby born 1780'ish and living in St Georges Middx married to a woman born around the same time but from Aylsham in Norfolk. Now as we know, these ancestors often ended up nipping to the ancestral town and marrying a local. So could this Thomas be connected to my Elizabeth Selby born 1742ish? Has anyone the Aylsham parish records for that period please? Ive had a look in the NRO but not been able to find the Selbys but the records were very poor for that period.
