I shall post this then run and hide! Would the 1873 death certificate for my 4xgrandmother state that she was 'widow of.........' Probably a stupid question but she is the first one of my ancestors to outlive her husband! Thanks Lou x

Hopefully it would. Depends who registered the death and how much they knew! It is usually written under 'occupation' !! Sarah PS Did all your other ancestors get bumped off my their hubbies then??

Thanks Sarah I'm wondering whether Mary's death cert will enlighten me as to whether she was married to Edward or Reuben! And quite possibly...most of the others died at least 20yrs before their hubbies. Then they became dressmakers and had a stream of 'lodgers'! Lou

Cat,, I've had this happen ==where it just says Widow of .. Dont want to put a damper on you''re plight>>> But if the informant had knowledge of her then I would think it will be down ; who she is the Widow of,, Kay,,

Thanks both of you I see what you're saying though, Kay...if whoever registered her death knew her hubbie as Edward they might not know that he could possibly have been baptised as Reuben and it will give the name they knew him as! Grrrrrrr.....!
