Hi I was hoping to avoid going all the way up to Colne-but it looks like I have no other choice. As for 'hard work' - it is nothing to do with not wanting to do it but in my situation it is extremely difficutl. At 30 having my third child I had such a severe stroke that it nearly kiiled me and has left me with a whole host of serious problems. So is it a case of not wanting to do the hard work? I think not sinead

Sinead Both of the records you have from the IGI have only been placed on by a member of the LDS church. Neither of them have a reference to say they are transcripts of actual parish records. With all references that are placed on by LDS members, one should tread with caution as there is no proof that you can follow up I.E. parish record. As to which one is yours it could be either. All you can do is to search parish records for one of their children and see if it gives both father and mother in the records. When you get that far back you must have looked in church records before, if not you cannot be certain that the links you have are the true ones. You cannot just rely on what is available on the IGI. This is not a complete listing of each and every birth marriage and death. Sorry its time for the real hard work and start looking throught those badly written pages. Victor

You will have to look up John's baptism to see if his mother's name is Mary or Ann. You should double check everything in the IGI anyway. There's a chance that the marriage entry will help. Or its possible that he married both ladies one after the other. You could check to see if there's a burial for Mary. nell

I really could do with some advice!!!!! I have a James Hargreaves born in Colne. Here is the problem- I have 2 marriages and I don't know which one!!!!! I have one married in 1724 to Mary Holgate and one married Ann Gregson in 1721 Both of these came from the IGI. The only thing I can be sure of is that his son John Hargreaves was born in 1739 in Colne. Where do I go from here?? I am just getting ready to start head butting my brick wall!!! So any help or advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Sineadxxx
