You have some adware installed on your computer. Adaware will remove it for you and no doubt lots of other nasties as well. Bob |

Unfortunately, Adaware won't remove it....it will remove only the junk that the program is generating....and will continure to generate until the program is removed, hence having to run Adaware again, and again, and again. Ezula is programed to make it difficult to remove and should be done while the PC is in SAFE MODE as it is (Ezula) running in the background and a running program can't be removed. Starting the PC in SAFE MODE will turn the EZULA program off. Directions for starting PC in Safe Mode are on the thread '1 Stop Routine PC Maintenance' on the first page of the thread....on the Tips board. May I suggest that you also download Microsofts (free) Anti-Spyware (Beta) that runs in real time. It will prevent future infestations of spyware/adware programs from downloading themselves without your knowledge. Keep Adaware, too, as this program works differently, removing generated junk. As for spyware/adware already installed on your PC (Ezula being one of those programs) those programs need to be removed using your PC's ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM feature. In some cases, you won't find known spyware that you know is there and there is another way to remove that. To start, first, download the Microsoft program: http://www.microsoft(.)com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx (Remember to remove the ( ) from the address) and update the anti-spyware definitions for ADAWARE. Then start the PC in SAFE MODE and run both programs - Adaware, first. Take note, before you follow the prompts to quarantine or delete what Adaware found, of any .exe programs that it finds. Write them down exactly the way that Adaware reports them. Example: Adaware will report Ezula something like: C:/Windows/System32/Ezula.exe or maybe like C:/Programs/newdot/Ezula.exe Adaware is giving you the file path that needs to be followed to find Ezula and remove it.....after you write it down you can finish the prompts to quarantine or delete. Go ahead and run the Microsoft program next and follow prompts to remove what it finds. The problem with Ezula, if the PC is not is SAFE MODE, the program has a stealth feature, meaning when you attempt to remove it, it quickly goes and regenerates itself the second you try to remove it. Using safe mode turns that stealth mode off allowing you to remove it. After you've run the two programs there are two ways to attempt to remove it. If it's (Ezula and any other .exe programs that Adaware picked up) in the list of programs that come up when you activate the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM feature and you can see the program, simply click on it to highlight the program and follow the prompts to UNINSTALL it. If it is hiding, you won't be able to see it in the ADD/REMOVE list.....this is where you will have to follow the file path to find the program. When you find the program place your mouse pointer over the name of the yellow folder that is holding the .exe program, RIGHT click and choose DELETE from the box....when Prompted if it's ok to delete, click on OK. To explain how to follow the file path.....the name of the program that you copied from the Adaware results: C:/Windows/System32/Ezula.exe 1. Click on START 2. Click on MY COMPUTER (there is an icon on your desktop for MY COMPUTER, too.) From this point you will follow the file path according to the name above: 3. Click on C DRIVE. 4. Click on WINDOWS (it's a yellow folder) 5. Click on SYSTEM 32 (another yellow folder) You should now see EZULA.exe - notice the file path we just followed is the name of the information you wrote down from the ADAWARE results. 6. Place your mouse pointer on EZULA.exe and RIGHT click. (You want to delete the whole yellow folder that is holding the Ezula.exe - not just the .exe file itself if there are other items in this yellow folder.) 7. From the drop down box choose DELETE and then OK when prompted to do so. If you have any problems give me a shout.....Being Ezula is one of those VERY difficult buggers to remove, we may have to come up with another way to remove it if the directions above don't work.....normal (normal for lack of a better word) hidden spyware can be removed this way with no problem....Ezula is a different type of animal though. Hope that helped! Off to catch a few ZZZZ's but will check back later. Judy :) |
