Any advice on what to use to mend torn birth certs

Laminate will eventually separate from the cert, removing the print with it. I think you can ring your local archives/records office and ask what should be used. nell

Kay, I'm not saying you are wrong, as I don't know anything about repairing certificates, but I do remember reading a reply on a thread last year, saying that the last thing you should do with certificates is laminate them. I don't know why, but apparently it's not good for them. Kath. x

I have used 'Invisible Tape' from good stationers on the backs of them , used photo spray addisive onto card ,then had them laminated for low cost,they keep clean are air tight and will not damage any more.... kay.

Jenny, I had a similar problem. I purchased certificate binders with card inserts. Then I used acid free glue to stick the torn certificate onto the insert before slipping it into the acid free sleeve. Don't know whether that's what you're supposed to do but I'm happy with the result! Jill

Hello My Dad has just come across some old birth certs that are rather tatty and torn. We know not to use cellotape on them because it will yellow and spoil but has anyone ideas on what to use instead? My Dad says the library's use clear masking type tape? Please advise Many thanks Jenny
