I am wanting to trace George William WARREN listed on 1901 as apprentice goldsmith of Prestage St Poplar. On his marriage cert 1907 he is listed as goldsmith of Canton St Poplar. ( address of both him and his wife) I am trying to find his children but have been in touch with goldsmiths Hall and they have no record of him (for address). There could be a connection in Mile End, but am not sure. Other than looking for all the WARRENS born in that area over a five year period has anyone got any suggestions? Have already sent for 4 duff certificates. any info appreciated brenda

Do you know he was an apprentice in 1901? (I have no idea how long an apprenticeship lasts!..or how long it might have been then.) How old was he when he married and what was his fathers name Jess * sorry i am a bit confused- have you already found him on 1901 census?

Hi there, There is a book called 'The Directory of Gold and Silversmiths - Jewellers & Allied Traders 1838-1914 - From the London Assay Office Registers' You can buy a copy of this directory or there is a copy held at Guildhall Library London. You should find your man there provided he completed his apprenticeship and actually became a goldsmith. Hope this helps Lucy
