Taking Microfiche to Records Centres

Does anyone know if a Library/Archives/Records centre will allow you to use their fiche readers to read your own microfiche? I have seen on genfair that I can but microfiche for areas I'm not able to get to for less than a tenner but I don't really want to splash out on a reader if I can avoid it. i only live 1/2 mile away from the Archives so could pop in there regularly. Has anybody taken their own to a Records Centre? Sam x

Hi Sam. I don't know about record centres. but our local library allowed me to use their fiche reader to read my own. I suppose if you ask and tell them they won't mind. Not too sure about record offices are they more strict? Germaine

I will ring and ask tomorrow but was so excited to find I can buy Parish records for about £5 and Memorial Inscriptions for £1 that I thought I'd see if anyone one here had done the same. I'd spend more than that in petrol getting to the places I need! Sam x

Sam. I used to take microfiche to our local history library that I used to get from the FHS society I am in,there was no connection between them, and it was never a problem. You could always do a local phone call to ask. Good luck. Margaret.

Done it at my LDS Centre, even donated the fiches after I'd done with them so others could get some use, then you know they will be there if you ever need them again.

I asked at my local library and they said no probs - as long as I showed them when I went in and out so they knew I was not walking out with theirs! alice
