I have a popup blocker but it is failing to block recent popups. When I search for the origin I cannot find the source. My Spyware doctor finds 'infections' and says it has delt with them- Quarentine and remove, but as soon as I connect to the internet there they are again 'Do you want dancing girls on your desktop' no thank you, I don't think my wife would appreciate them there. Any help would be most welcome. thanks Dave

I had this trouble a little while a go it was a nasty object called Peopleon a hijacker and although my syeware could delete it it was in the registry it still occasionally reappears but to get rid of it you need to go into your taskmaster press ctrl alt delete brings up taskmaster press on task manager and scroll through it usually comes up as autoupdate delete this and hopefully it will go. However on first occasion it had got into lots of things and I was lucky cos hubby is a computor systems manager so he cleaned me up!!! sandie

Are you signed up with MSN Messenger - they are completely free and do their own pop-up blocker - also free. I use it and it's great. K x

Dave.... The problem is that your PC has spyware/adware that has installed itself and those programs need to be uninstalled. You can add all the pop-up blockers you want, as well as programs like SpyBot, Adaware, etc....which will clean up junk generated by these programs, but in order for the pop-ups to stop duplicating themselves, you need to UNINSTALL the problem programs. May I suggest you install ADAWARE - a free program on the internet which can be found at: http://www.lavasoftusa(.)com/software/adaware/ Remember to remove the ( ) from the address. Download and install the free version of the program. This program will find and remove adware/spyware junk (as will most programs will.) One of the things I like about ADAWARE is that it doesn't ADD spyware/adware to your PC as many of the free snti-spyware programs do. Once Adaware finds and shows the results the results of what it's found, before you quarantine or delete them, write down any thing that it finds with an .exe file extension. These .exe files are actually programs and they are what you will need to know in order to uninstall the offending programs by using your PC's ADD/REMOVE PROGRAM feature. Also download Microsoft's free Anti-Virus (Beta) program which you can find here: http://www.microsoft(.)com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx Remember to remove the ( ) from the address. This program will prevent spyware/adware programs from installing themselves without your knowledge and it works in 'real time' protecting your PC at all times. Adaware only works to remove junk generated by already installed programs....so it is necessary to download both.....and again, already installed programs need to be uninstalled. Once exhisting spyware/adware programs are uninstalled and you have Microsoft's Anti-Virus installed and Adaware has removed 'junk' you should be spyware/adware free. I suggest that once you download ADAWARE and MICROSOFT that you scan your PC with both while running your PC in SAFE MODE.....an easy step by step guide for starting your PC is on the first page of the '1 Stop Routine PC Maintenance' thread on the TIPS board which I will nudge up for you should you need it. Any questions or problems feel free to give me a shout. Judy
