Thanks, ladies. I already know he is 'up north', but he works in computing, like my husband and there's only a year's difference in their ages so I am hoping we can get together. His mother, who is now dead, did the original family tree which I had to work on, when she was having to visit Somerset House in visits home from America, and when the 1891 census wasn't open, there was no GR and she had to wait ages for certs. She is the lady who couldn't find her grandfather's birth cert because he was registered as McCarthy (I think - I am awaiting confirmatory cert this week) instead of Carter. I had hoped to tell her about it, but although she would have been the same age as my mum, she died a couple of years ago. nell

Thanks to a very helpful GR member in the USA, I have now been able to send an e-mail to my husband's second cousin, who I thought was in America, but is actually in England! nell
