my grandparents used to live in a cottage that used to be an old washhouse, Is there anyway I could trace the history of this place? I believe that their parents used to live in the same road, and its not a very long road, maybe 4 or 5 cottages all joined together, they were at the end, but am sure the 'very end building was knocked down sometime' as the evidence of 'chimney on the outside' and brick lines? were evident, I have googled the address but found nothing so far? remember the days when roads used to be so much *longer*

Tracey Have you tried asking at the local council? They might have records that could help you. Rachel

Tracey The nearest largeish library/local history centre/records office to this house should have some info, maybe even pictures. The inhabitants can be traced back using street directories and electoral rolls. You might also find this site useful: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/househistory/?source=ddmenu_research4 nell
