I need help in finding a wedding of James Robinson and Maria. Jess has kindly found them on the 1901, James was born abt 1854 in Portsea and Maria about 1859 in Brighton. Their first child was born 1890 but I can't find a marriage. If I can get the marriage, I can double check the parents of James to confirm whether he is one of mine. Anybody got any ideas?? Thanks

From FREEBMD - this is the only possible marriage 'south of the wash' in the 1885-95 period ..... otherwise you need to trawl 1837Online. Where were they in 1891 ? Marriages Dec 1889 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pennicard Thomas Charles St Saviour Southwark 1d 265 Killick Maria St Saviour Southwark 1d 265 Robinson James Ernest St. Saviour 1d 265 THOMAS Ellen St. Saviour 1d 265

I tried the 1881 Census for James and he wasn't there at all. I had a look on Ancestry UK, Free BMD and Family Search. I made a list of weddings of Robinsons from the Portsmouth Record Office, so my only other option is to trail through them. Trust me to have an ordinary name. It is almost as bad as Smith. (No offence to any Smith's on this board)

There is this marriage - possibly theirs, would mean that they weren't married when they had their first child in 1890... have you purchased that child's birth certificate - it will give you more details! Well thank you one and all. I have so much to go on now and no sign of Hugh Grant (Four weddings etc). I'll have a look at the Record Office to see if they have the baptisms of the children to start with.
