Has anyone joined this site? What is your opinion of it? Just found the site so wanted some advice before paying what seems to be a very reasonable joining fee!! thanks katrina

Havent joined but had a look at this site some time ago and you say 'reasonable subscription' - on the contrary I find that their charges are unbelievable with such high cots for each subject and especially for Censuses. In order for YOU to guage the worth of joining you have to consider the reason for doing so - What does this site offer that others do not ... and maybe at cheaper rates.

Hi Katrina - I joined this site a couple of weeks ago with a five pound subscription. I only use it for BDM records, but made sure I checked freebmd first. I found it easy to use, found five records I have been searching for and was then able to obtain the certificates. I only used five credits so was well satisfied. The site seemed to be working ok and result came up quickly. Grace

I like the site personally. But I'm very hesitent about paying for credits to search archives which would possibly not weild proper results. If not knowing much about person/event these websites are best avoided. Spend you time at the CRO (County Records Office) or your local big library that has fiche and census and BMD records. Only try this as a last resort or when knowing more details. The family relatives between 1866 and 1920 is a better bet for records between that time, the way they have it and transcribed the records (so you can actually search properly and not just get all the likely people on that page with which they may not be your ancestors). The genealogist is a good site, I say that again, but depending on the archives. I won't use it for BMD or census, but I will use it for Birth/marriage index 1984-2003 which I can search for free for the £5 fee. Hope this helps Steve

I joined this site last month, for lancashire 1891 &1901 it doesn't really help me much because i don't have access to the piece & folio details although if i'm looking for family groups i find it a great help MOE!

I've had no problems and found the pdf files much easier than the djvu files on 1837. I've only joined for BMD though.
