I have imported my tree from FTM2005 to this site, without any problem. But, where I have illigitimate children with just a mother named and no father (becasue it's not known who he was) Genes has entered the father as UNKNOWN UNKNOWN with no date or place of birth. Also, where I know the father of someone (from the marriage certificate) but have yet to ascertain who the mother is, it has again entered the missing parent as UNKNOWN UNKNOWN. Is there anything that I can do about this? Because there are children attached it won't let me remove the missing parent. I know alot of people on here complain about entries that say UNKNOWN with no place or date of birth and I would hate to think that I am one of the people they are complaining about - I didn't do it on purpose, honest! Sam it seems that Unkown is correct in the examples you have given. It doesn't help anyone who sees the name on the summary list, obviously, but in the context or your tree it makes absolute sense. One of the gripes has been the complete lack of information from some contributors who then expect others to wield the crystal ball for them, like when they enter six John Jones's with no date or place.

Thanks for your help, I did delete my tree from here first and imported the one from FTM2005, that worked fine. It was all the UNKNOWN UNKNOWN's that bothered me, they weren't there before the import, when I just added people to my tree on this site as and when I found them. Now I have imported my upto date tree, it has added all these UNKNOWN parents! At least now I know I haven't done anything wrong and there is nothing I can do about it. Thanks Sam x
