Thanks Jess Just had a look on Ancestry 1891 census for all Charles Baxters born 1883 +/- 2 years and can't find a single one who matches with the father's name. Looks like I'm gonna have to trawl more years in search of this one. Still will keep me out of trouble for a while yet. Rachel Updated Her maiden name was White, I think I've found her living at Caroline Street (where he was living when they got married) in 1901. Her dad was William. |

'Fraid not! They are names not known to me, John Broderick and Maria Horridge. Must've been friends of theirs. Been puzzling me for a good while now this one. Thanks anyway for the suggestion Rachel |

I'm trying to find my gran's elusive father. From his marriage certificate CHARLES BAXTER, bachelor, married MARGARET SHAWCROSS, widow, 13th June 1916. His age is 33 and hers 30. He is an iron moulder living at 12 Caroline Street, Manchester and his father is THOMAS BAXTER, deceased, a file cutter. I can find a Charles Baxter, iron moulder, on 1901 census age 19 living as a boarder in Manchester but born in Liverpool which would seem to tie in but I can't find him on 1891. He wouldn't have an occupation then and I don't know where he'd be. Any help/ideas/shots in the dark would be great. I did find a THOMAS BAXTER in Liverpool in 1881 census, unmarried, boarder born Warwickshire, Birmingham, occupation a file cutter but he might just be a red herring. |
