Hi Andrew, The information on Scottish records is much more comprehensive than that of England. The birth certificate will detail the parent's marriage location & date . If you are going to order anything I would get the birth first. Another option may be to search for 'Edinburgh' on the records board as I have seen some offers of individuals willing to do look-ups at the Registrar House. Jim

Hi Yvonne Thanks for this. I can pinpoint a location for the birth I'm looking for, but have absolutely no idea where the marriage might have taken place. I looked at the Scotlands People site, but it's too early for my purposes, so I really need someone to help do ing the search manually in Edinburgh. Alternatively if there's an office I could call that would be helpful. cheers Andrew

Hi there, I had the same problem but unfortunately due to privacy they dont put what they call recent bmd online. You have to request them from the registry offices. and of course pay for them. It costs about £7 for a cert give them all the info you can they cant promise anything but will look for you. You need to know the area of course to start with. Good luck but maybe you could try family first they may have the originals and be prepared to give you a copy Scotlands people is probably the best website for researching scottish family history very informative. Hi Folks I have a couple of particular searches I need to make against Scottish records, which are more recent than the information available online. I need to trace a marriage c. 1935-1945 and a birth c. 1948-50 Is there anyone around who has access to the files, or who would be willing to search for me, since I live at the opposite end of the UK.? I'd be be extremely grateful for any help you can provide. cheers Andrew
