Electoral Rolls-right to view?

I have discovered where Electoral Rolls are kept that i would very much like to view. Can anyone please tell me if i have to give a reason for wanting to view them and can it be refused. I would like to go back 10 years. maureen

Hi Maureen, I think you can view them at the moment but there was a thread on here not long ago and I think the goverment are discussing the possibility of them not being open to the public soon,(someone will correct me if I am wrong), so I would go and view them now, if you know where they are held phone the library concerned and see if there would be a problem for you to call in and view them. all i am after is who was living at a certain address from 1995 - 2002, i have managed to get the 2003-5 on a web-site.I know one persons name and want to know if there were any others. I wasnt sure where they were kept so wrote to the local council, i got the reply that they are kept in their offices, are not to hand and that i will need to make an appointment to view. In some peoples eyes my reasons for wanting to look at them would not be justified and i dont want to make an appointment and then find i am met with aa barrage of questions when i get there!! Are there always only one copy, am i likely to also find them in library?
