Hi Andrew, I had a WW1 death overseas which I ordered in the normal way online. When you get to the ordering certificates online section select births overseas, and go from there. For the GRO ref put the volume and page numbers, you could also put the place if you wish to cover yourself. Sometimes there is a year instead of the volume. |

Hi Andrew, I emailed the GRO once about this, as it is unclear as to how to order any certificates. This is what I got in response, don't know if it helps or not: 'Thank you for you email. Due to the multitude of index formats, of overseas events, the field for GRO index ref is a 'free format' field which will allow you to type enough information to identify the type of index and volumes, page numbers. In the case you refer to I would suggest that you record the reference as 'Regimental Birth Vol 1218 Page 41' I hope that this information is of use to you.' You can order online, the same as with other bmd's. Good luck with it, Sarah |

Could someone help please? I have found an ancestor in the overseas births section of 1837online. Along with the name of the person and where they were born there is a page no. It is an army birth, and I was wondering whether the page listed is in the format of a birth certificate and whether I could send of for a copy, and also who do I send off to- the ONS??? I would be really grateful for any help Andy |
