Hi Margaret is it the marriage to James Ruff 1852 Worthing district ??. I did see the christening of a Jane Penn on the IGI DEC 1826 Poling father William mother Mary is that the only proof this lady has of father being William. As it was a baptism that Jane could have been born up to 5 years before, i have seen many baptisms taking this long some poeple waited till they had all there children to baptise them together. It could be possible that this William had a brother named Charles, if it says Charles as her father i would stick to that untill you find out different. Colette xx |

Or her father might be called Charles William or William Charles. I've found a few relatives who picked up and dropped names as they felt like it. Some invented new ones just for their wedding day! nell |

Margaret Has the other member sent you a copy of the birth entry? If so, maybe the real father died and her mother either married his brother, or she has given the name of her Grandfather or Uncle - who may have brought her up. Happy hunting Marjorie |

I have a marriage certificate and the bride Jane Penn gives her father as Charles Penn but I have had contact from another member who are tracing this family and have the same Jane Penn born 1826 Poling Sussex with father as William Penn and mother Mary Chatfield. This was a church marriage and the bride and groom both of full age. Margaret |
