Help - URGENT - need to delete d.o.b. for living -

Sorry to be a pain, but I need to find out. I have just updated my tree from PAF, usually when I send it to a GEDCOM file I ask it to restrict the info on the living, but as for some reason it decides that anyone I haven't put a date of death for must still be living, I then end up spending a couple of hours trying to make sure that no-one is left without a birth year. The only problem doing it the other way is that I have four people out of 200 living, so thought 'OK I'll import all the info and then take out the birthdates of the four living ones - easy' Believe me its not = Genes will not seem to let me do anything with them - does anyone have a solution, or am I going to have to redo it and spend hours trawling through it to make sure its right. Thanks Trudy

I had this problem took ages to work out but someone said if you email them GR will do it for you, or you change the name you want to delete to *****and then it should work because its not related to anyone in your tree

I personally worked it out for myself but there is a thread on here about it I started it I think it is how to remove a family from your tree

If you only have 4 living people in your tree, why not delete their birth info before you create your Gedcom from PAF, then re-enter the details in PAF after you have made your Gedcom? You have to leave your own d.o.b in though, otherwise your Gedcom file will be rejected by GR! Richard

Thanks Richard, great minds think alike, just got up and had the same thought, so have deleted the info in PAF (by the way, Genes will let you save it without your date of birth as long as the forename and surname are right) Trudy

I t seems to have worked I did it a while ago so not too sure but just checked no date and place of birth. I only had my own family on but after reading thread on subject decided to take our birth details off. Hope you have sorted it. Germaine

No worries Trudy - glad that you found a way around. By the way, I use Family Tree Maker, and that seems to be a bit more intelligent when it decides who might still be living - i.e. it will only privatise the details of people who have no death info and who were born less than 100 years ago. If you have people who were born after 1905 and you know that they have died, but you don't know when, then enter their death date as 'bef. 2005'. Cheers, Richard
