Because my 'puter is doing all sorts of strange things . I want to copy my FTMfiles to disc. so that I can take everything off use my recovery dics and start all over again from scratch But no matter what I do it doesn't work ie save to disc or to floppy . It appears to be working then a message comes up to say the disc isn't large enough to take the files even when I try some of my smallest files Ive also tried saving to my memory stick and it then says I cant save to a removable device Has any one any solution to this? Just copy the .FTW and .FBK (backup) files to floppy. They are stored (for me at any rate) in 'My Documents'. Or burn them to CD. Or e-mail them to yourself at work. Make sure that the files 'last modified' date is correct to ensure you are backing up your latest copies. Hope that helps.

Hi Brenda, I tried to copy my FTM2005 to a disc a few weeks age. Don't ask me what happened but every time I log on to the pc now a box comes up telling me that my INI file has been damaged and to re-install program. Anyone know what an INI FILE IS? Christine.

An INI file tells the program parameters/options, for example if you changed the background colour this is how it would remember the colour you changed it to next time you load it up. If you're using Windows XP, your INI file lives in: c:\Documents and settings\[name of your logon, eg Christine]\Application Data\FTW You can edit it in notepad. The problem will likely be in the last file used parameters, eg LastFile=c:\myfamilytree.ftw One of these will be A: instead of C: (for your floppy drive). I'd edit it to the path of the file you currently use, but if you don't know what you're doing there could be trouble!

Thanks Aran, I'll wait till hubby gets home and show him this thread. He's supposed to be the puter expert in here but he's also the one most likely to screw it up. At least if he screws it up he can't yell at me. Thanks again Aran. Christine.

Thanks for all your tips Have tried as you suggested Alan and it apppears to be working OK on one of my smaller files . Will have to see what happens when i do the large one I have used family tree programme for years the first programme I had was on a floppy disc which I bought at a car boot sale in Wales and this is the first time I've had any problems saving my files to disk or floppy Thanks again to oyou all regards Bren
