This is how I do it. Click export (third icon along tool bar). If you just want it to use on PAF you can choose 'PAF5' but I usually choose 'other Gedcom 5.5', ANSEL or ANSI, haven't found a difference between these two. Then select 'partial'. Click 'select' and another box appears which will allow you to select the names you want. 'OK' when you are happy you have selected the right names. You will be given the option to name the new Gedcom file you have created and where to save it (my docs?). Go back to PAF and click 'file' and 'open'. The new file you have made should be listed in the box along with your original one. Highlight it and click 'open'. You can then add to it or amend it as you would your main file. I've now got about 8 different ones, trees done for friends etc. so I know it is definately possible and not too difficult to do. If I managed it anyone can!!!! |

I did this the other day, I'm trying to remember how! First in PAF go to file, new and name a new file. go back to main PAF file, then goto file, export and select partial. I think then I selected the names that I wanted and it asked if I wanted to include linked marriages, children etc. Once you have saved the new gedcom file, open PAF in the new name. Import the gedcom and that should be it. I think that is all the steps. I know I had a bit of trial and error first, but got there in the end. |

Hi All Can any one help me, I use PAF and have all my family tree on one file, there are now over three hundred names. I want to break this down into smaller individual family files but I don't know how. Is there a quick way, or do I have to retype all the info. Carole |
