Is there a site where I can search the 1851 census for Middlesex, Bethnal Green area? I am looking for William Field, born c.1830, father James. He married in 1849 at St Dunstans, described as 'full age', father's occupation shopkeeper. William was a 'hatter' and his sons later went into the business too. I can find him from 1861 onwards but would like to know more about his father so am trying to find places where I can search the 1851 or 1841 census. Any hints would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Penny. |

I don't think it's online anywhere but if you post your request on the Records Office message board I believe someone on there has the 1851 London discs and will do look ups. I have the 1841 and would have a look for your man but as the discs are only indexed by Street name , not by surnames, I'd need a possible address to search for. |

Thank you Judith. I will post the message on the other site as you suggested. I'm afraid I don't have an accurrate address for William, (he's my Great Grandfather by the way), but in 1861 he was at 17 Hayfield Place, Mile End Old Town, Stepney. I suppose he may still have been there 10 years previously - but it's a bit of a long shot! Thanks again for your advice, Penny. |
