I can't find lots of my relatives on the 1861. I think they are mistranscribed. Are you looking on Ancestry or 1837? nell |

I had a go at this (on Ancestry) while eating my supper and agree that they're very elusive indeed. I found them in 1871 and tried to use that info to trace them in 1861. I tried some likely mistranscriptions (Paw, Pew, etc). I tried finding Jane Beckwith (Beck*). I tried missing out chunks of name and using wildcards. I tried using just first or second name with DoB or PoB or Residence and still got nowhere. Looking at the image, I assume that PoB 'Walsonth, Surrey, England ' is actually 'Walworth...'. What I find intrigung is that the neighbours don't seem to exist at all in 1861 either. Without going through all the possible census pages for the area, I can't be sure, but I do wonder whether there are some missing sheets for Adam Street in Rotherhithe. I did a quick run through on 50% so it wouldn't take too long to load each time and didn't see Adam St in the Rotherhithe St Mary area. It could be that the street had a name-change (such things happened). You'd need to go back and see which other streets were around it to narrow down the possibilities. Christine |
