One of my ancestors was born in what looks like Lagende Larkes, Essex. I have looked on a map, but cannot find any town or village like it. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Many thanks, Kathy

Thanks Maggie. Alan, I think it could be Layer de la Haye. It's from the 1861 census. Kathy

Thanks everyone for all your kind help. It must be Layer de la Haye, but would never have found it without your help. I see it on the map now just south of Colchester. Regards, Kathy
