According to CAMDEX the spouse/s of my Gt.Gt.Grandmother (July Ann Splevins/Spleving) was/were Saywell, Sewell (both names figure in my family and are sometimes mistranscribed with each other). The reference no. for the certificate is..............01/17/3. William Saywell's spouse is given as Spleving and the ref. no. is..............01/17/1 William Sewell's spouse is given as Spleving and the ref. no. is..............01/17/2 All three marriages are shown in 1844. Does this mean that there are three separate certificates, even if the Saywell/Sewell is one and the same person? Anyone have any ideas? M. Steer |

on CAMDEX I think these all point to entry no 17 in register no 1 for that church (a new register would have started Jul 1837, and many village churches only did a few weddings a year). The /1 /2 /3 is the number for the index entry itself, so they've indexed this cert under 3 names. Probably the cert will say 'William Saywell otherwise Sewell' or something like that Or sometimes the vicar uses one spelling and then the signature is spelt differently |

If you mean your own divorce being finalised, check with the county court. Thay will also issue you with a copy of the decree absolute |

Thankyou for your replies. I have the Marriage Cert., for July Anna Spleving and William Saywell (though he should be a Sewell). I also have a Birth Cert., for a child born to William Sewell and Julia Ann Sewell, formerly Splevins. Odd thing is July Anna Spleving was able to sign her Marriage Cert., but Julia Ann (Splevins) could only put an X when registering her childs birth. The plot thickens! Think I need to get hold of the Parish Registers. M. Steer. |
