On the 1871 census There is a Sarah Ellis lodger age 16 unmarried Caroline ' visitor age 11 Henry ' son age 2 Could the son be Sarah's? Carolines age is very clear age 11 You have Maria Romaine it had married but a little un has been put before it? she is the head Then there is the son age 16 William Romaine unmarried Could the child be Williams and Sarahs? Just a thought Pam

Thank you for the tips. Kathleen, I already have the image. The Romaine and Ellis are linked by marriage and you could be right about the age being wrong. Thanks again for looking.

There is a Caroline Ellis born Marston on the 1871 as a visitor and the age is given as 11, but this must be a mistake, as there is also a son aged 2 with her. There is also a Sarah Ellis at the same address described as a lodger who could be a daughter. Have saved the image if you need it to look for yourself. Kath. x

Thanks for looking Sinead. I tried all variations I could think of. As this lot seemed to spend a lot of time in each others houses, I guess she was travelling between one and another when the census man called.

you are not alone carol! she does not seem to be on there under any variation of first or surname.Maybe she was missed off,visiting or something. Sorry! sineadxx

Caroline ELLIS born 1829 Marston Wiltshire. I have her on the 1851, 1861, 1881 and 1891 I dont think she married as I have her death March 1899 still called ELLIS So why cant I find her in 1871.
