Hi All My brother and I have only just started out on researching my family tree, and with the help of a few websites and some great advice from this community we have made some good progress with most of our lines. However we are hitting a few hurdles with my late fathers’ descendants. Apart from our grandfather’s name and dob we know nothing ! We finally managed to track down enough information to obtain a birth cert. And that has been really useful in identifying our great grandfather/mother. But the trail has gone a bit cold, and we wondered if anyone had any advice of where we should go next. So here’s what we know so far our g.grandfather was George Grubb (a collier). He was married in 1909 to Mary Elizabeth Brewer (b.1889) in the Bedwelty District of South Wales. They had 3 children that we are aware of, George William (my grandfather b.1911) Lena b.1913 and Ivy b.1915. We have searched the 1901 census for George Grubb, and have found a couple of possibles – but we have no real information to x-reference against. Also when trying to search back earlier for their families they just disappear ! What’s my next step ? We have no family to ask! Should I be looking to go down to my local records office ? Any help gratefully received. Thank you....Paula

Hi Paula,, Trying a search of your gt gradfathers birth may be a good move for now,,as a copy of his birth certificate will give,, 1,fathers name and job and address where they lived,, 2.the mothers name and also her maiden name(name before marriage) and the address ,and it will also state where he was born if different from the usual home address,,, 3,when and where his birth was registered,,, then you can repeat the same steps for your gt grandmother,, i am of couse assuming it has all taken place within the uk.... kay.

HI as Kay mentioned the first one seems the best bet.As in 1901 he is a miner. In 1891 he can be found in LLanwonno Glamorgan. No father present but his mother was Mary Grubb - mistranscribed as GRABB. + siblings James b 1872 Maud b 1881 and William 1876. George is down as being born in 1884 in Wallsend Staff. Good Luck Tracey

I was just about to post the same information as Kay. The first one she gives sounds like a good possibility. If you haven't already got the 1909 marriage certificate, I would start with that. It will give you George's father's name and that will make it easier to decide whether you have the right birth certificate, when you find the birth reference for your great grandfather. Kath. x
