Hi Jackie The obvious answers would be to obtain her marriage certificate. You obviously know her husbands name, do you know when they were married. You should then be able to find the ref. for their marriage cert (you don't necessarily need to know all her details to order it) and this should give you her surname and both fathers names. Hope this is of some help. Trudy |

The above answers didn't quite make sense, did they? You can't get her birth certificate until you know her maiden name!! What you need is your grandmother or grandfather's birth cert (you have two great-grandmothers on your mother's side and I can't tell which one you are asking about!) and that should tell you their mother's maiden name. Or your great-grandparents' marriage certificate. If they got married after 1911, I think it is, the GRO index entry for their marriage will give the bride's maiden name in the bridegroom's entry. Sammy - Well, when you first put up your reply it didn't make sense, you altered it after I had read it. I didn't want a newbie to be put off the whole thing by being advised to do something impossible. Couldn't be bothered to delete my whole reply after typing it in and then finding you had changed yours! Looks as though your replies have completely vanished now so anybody else reading this won't know what I'm on about. Kate. |
