Hello All, How can I find out if an ascendent was knighted? Have looked online in Burke's peerage but found nothing. Thanks, Gillian |

You could try www(.)gazettes-online(.)co(.)uk/ Remove ( ) It's an on going project so only goes back to 1900 at the moment. Keith |

Sarah Montgomery on the records board may be able to help you. if you type in the thread search bar THE TIMES NEWSPAPER 1785-1985 lookup offer. The Times would probably have events such as that in them Deborah |

Hi there Were you aware that there are two types of Burkes? One for peerage only and one for peerage and knightage? The knightage often comes nearer to the back in the years they are combined. I have missed an ancestor myself by not looking at the knightage section. If you know the approximate date of the award you might find that your local library keeps a couple of older copies of Burkes or Debrettes. Otherwise the PRO library is loaded with them and has the 'Dictionary of National Biography'. Sylvie |
